Evanston/Skokie School District 65 Board of Education
District 65 is governed by the Board of Education comprised of seven locally-elected members. School Board members serve, uncompensated, for four-year terms. The Board of Education is responsible for hiring a superintendent to ensure that schools are managed in accordance with State of Illinois laws and policies set forth by the school board. The Board of Education should also set educational goals for the schools - based on state laws and community values - and see that the superintendent as well as all district staff members vigorously pursue those goals. Members of the District 65 Board of Education are elected at-large during the Consolidated Election on the first Tuesday in April of each odd-numbered year. (If that date conflicts with Passover, the election moves to the second Tuesday.) Terms of members are staggered so that there are three or four seats contested at each biennial election.
D65 Board of Education receives Governance Recognition Award
In 2013, the District 65 Board of Education was one of four Illinois school boards to receive the Illinois Association of Schools Boards (IASB) Governance Recognition Award. The award acknowledges school boards that engage in activities and model behavior that leads to excellence in local school governance and supports quality public education. The District 65 Board of Education leads with innovative thinking, adherence to recognized governance principles, and a demonstrated commitment to serve children and families.
